Are you a Funko Funatic?

Welcome to the Funko part of our 'What to Collect' series of blogs where we feature collectible sets from our store, or our own recommendations.

We're sure there are very few people who have never heard of Funko!

This blog gives a vrief summary about how it started and where we are now. Our store has a range of Pops from all genres, with a focus being on the different Animes.

The Funko founder was Mike Becker who started making nostalgic bobbleheads in 1998. Funko Pop! vinyl figures were launched in 2010 with a Batman figure from the 1960s TV series.

Funko Pop figures are vinyl figures inspired by characters from all types of pop culture. With oversized heads, round black eyes (mostly), and simplified body shapes, their design is instantly recognisable. The bespoke figures are displayed in clear-front boxes which can equally as collectible as the figures themselvs.

Most of the regular-sized figures stand around 3.75-4 inches tall (9.5cm to 10cm), although they comes in different sizes (from Bitty to Mega).

Their appeal comes from a massive range of licences, regular new releases, and a visual style that makes them instantly collectible.

The 4-pack bitty pops include a concealed mystery one, plus an acrylic holder for the four bitty pops. These can be mixed and matched to create your own series.

Grails, Vaulted, Autos, NFTs, Die-Casts!

What is a Grail?

This is based on personal choice. A Grail is a pop that is considered rare and has high sentimental value to the collector. It could be a limited edition or an exclusive variant that's sought after but hard to find. Ultimately, a Grail is a collector's piéce de resistance of their collection.

Vaulted pops are those whose designs are vaulted and retired from production. Therefore these are usually harder to find and can be subjectively considered Grails.

Autos are autographed Funko pops! They can be signed and/or quoted, and some even double signed by famous people related to the pop. For animated pops, these could be the voice-actors! Autos are considered variants of the unsigned version of the pop and are therefore higher in value.

What is an NFT?
